The Sinking Ship Needs Your Help!!

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

Reposted from the FaceBook Event Page [link]:

Hey Guys and Gals,

The Sinking Ship needs your help! The liquor license of the bar is up for renewal and a local group, the Meridian Kessler Neighbors Helping Neighbors (no affiliation with the Meridian Kessler Neighborhood Association), is trying to make them lose the license because they think its bad for the neighborhood, if the license goes, the business goes too.
If you live within the boundaries of the Meridian Kesller Neighborhood (Meridian to the Monon and Kessler to 38th Street) please email the Neighborhood Association and tell them you support the Sinking Ship! Even if you don’t and are just a concerned citizen who thinks the ship is the coolest thing since sliced bread, we need your support too!

We have to act fast! The hearing is Monday July 18th! Please try and email by Friday!

Some points to mention:
- Its one less abandoned building in our neighborhood which already has plenty
- It gives the neighborhood a place to go and meet their neighbors in a social setting that is comfortable for any demographic.
- Creates jobs and brings revenue into the neighborhood, as well as plenty of tax dollars into the city, county and state.
- They support other local businesses, causes, and groups
- They provide a unique venue which differs from the other available establishments in the area.
- Already we have seen people moving to the area to be closer to the ship, there is something to do in our neighborhood now! We dont have to go to Broadripple or Downtown we can support a business in our neighborhood now!

So here is who to email:
The Association: meridiankessler@aol.com
The Zone Leader the zone the ship is in: terry@terrybowdell.com
The instigator of the issues: paula.light@att.net
Please include Damon in your email as well so he has a copy of your support as well Damon@thesinkingship.com

We need your help fast. The hearing is Monday, feel free if you can attend to come and show your support in person, but if you cant, email these people and tell them you think The Sinking Ship is good for our neighborhood!

Feel free to post other suggestions of how we can show support, points to include in your email, and let us know if you email them!

———-Invite your friends to this group and lets spread the word!———–

It makes me sad that a neighborhood would want to get rid of a local business like this. I have met so many great new people and reconnected with old ones here. If you can’t make the actual hearing, email the people listed in the description. The Sinking Ship is a great place to eat, drink, listen to great music and have fun in Indianapolis’s Midtown! Thank you for your support!

Hooray for Spring, List Time

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I’m drinking my last Hazelnut Latte today since next week I will begin my 101 things #93: No Starbucks Coffee for 2 weeks. This is a habit that will be hard to break since there is one that I stop into on my way to work. I’m confident I can do it though. It’s just coffee and there’s free coffee in my office, plus I’ll save some dough. I plan on putting what I would have used for Starbuck in an envelope and putting aside for something special.

Also, I can cross off #86: Say “Yes” to something you normally would say no to. I’m very particular about strangers asking for cigarettes off me and I never do it. I have my reasons, for instance, I really don’t like the idea of giving someone something that I know is bad for them. Yesterday, after work, though, I gave in. I was in a particularly mellow mood walking from the bus to the house and after exchanging ‘good afternoon’ with a passerby. He asked for a cigarette, and to his surprise, I complied. He looked like he had a rough day.

In other news, I’m house hunting. I’ve been very surprised at the amazing response from all of my friends and the help that looks like I’ll be getting. I can’t wait to start looking :)

I’ve had a wonderful week that kicked off with a warm Sunday porch sitting and later an evening at Cocoanut Grove, so I will leave you with a photo from Sunday Night taken by my wonderful friend, Kristen Leep.

Hope you all have a great weekend! I think I’ll be starting #56: Blog everyday for one month soon – Just to warn you ;)

Happy Weekend: More Happy to drown the Blues

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Man, January is turning out to be such a strange month for me (physically, financially and emotionally). I’m looking forward to see if February has some good surprises around the corner.

I’m going to a birthday dinner for Phil tonight and then the beer fairy is driving up to spend the night with us! I’m sure Nick will come over and we’ll nerd out on board games. Good times!

Here’s a list of ten things that make me happy:

1. Finding an unexposed roll of film in the fridge
2. Hugging P.B.ers
3. Meeting other musician who want to get together and jam
4. Getting excited about Girls Rock! Indianapolis
5. Eating Nutella strait from the jar
6. Writing letters and postcards to friends and family (email me your address and get added to the list!)
7. Discovering a record in our collection that I haven’t listened to in a long time
8. Looking at old photos of me and friends (pre-Indiana)
9. Discovering new ways I can be creative
10. Making lists :)

What makes you happy?

Have a good weekend!!

    PRN HQ

    Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

I turned in my keys to my apartment on Monday, so therefore I am an official resident of the Punkrocknight House aka PRN HQ…this can be considered a good or a bad thing. I see the good in it mostly. I’m saving over $300 in rent, Jason and I share the 3rd floor, I have enough workspace to start sewing again (yay monsters), and there is a bathroom that we don’t have to share (at this moment).

Even though there is drama, which I stay out of, I don’t mind it.

    Maybe I should write a book ;)

I’m so glad we have a 4 day work week this week! I busted out the vouchers last week and I need a day to do nothing. Jason is playing a show in Bloomington on Friday (Marmoset). They will be playing with the Impossible Shapes (http://www.myspace.com/theimpossibleshapes). It will be The Impossible Shapes last show.

I don’t know what we’re doing on Saturday, probably typical 4th of July stuff, like cookouts and parties.

Well whatever you are doing on the weekend, I hope it’s a good one!

This weekend Jason and I went camping in Red River Gorge in Kentucky with Tish and Steve. We left Indy on Friday and spent the night at Tish’s house then set off early morning Saturday.

Saturday was so nice, after arriving on the campsite and setting up we wandered on many of the trails there. Including:
