Memorial Weekend
This weekend Jason and I went camping in Red River Gorge in Kentucky with Tish and Steve. We left Indy on Friday and spent the night at Tish’s house then set off early morning Saturday.
Saturday was so nice, after arriving on the campsite and setting up we wandered on many of the trails there. Including:
Sky Bridge Trail

Angel Windows Trail

and Chimney top Trail

It was all so beautiful and the weather was perfect. After hiking we headed back to the campsite, chilled out, played Yatzee and Uno while trying to attempt a fire. The fire was a bit weak, but we managed to cook some corn wrapped in foil in the coals. Jason was dissapointed in his fire building skills, as seen here:

After a good night’s sleep, we cooked up some bacon and eggs for breakfast and headed out for our canoeing adventure! I have never canoed before so this was definitely a new experience. I did get frustrated in the beginning, trying to learn to trust Jason steering in the back and just learning how to operate in general on that thing. But after a while, and a few runnings in with rocks and trees in the river, we got a groove.
There was a little island on the side of the river that we decided to stop and have lunch on. It was so pretty and there were butterflies everywhere.
After lunch we finished canoeing, it was a long strip of river (8 miles) and took us about 4 hours. I would love to canoe again now that I’ve got somewhat of the hang of it.
We were going to hike some more on Sunday, but the canoeing wore us all out, so we chilled at the campsite, played Uno and Settlers of Katan (awesome game), drank beer, ate food, and then when to bed. (The fire was much better tonight
).
It poured insane amounts of rain that night as we slept and luckily our tents only had minor leaks. In the morning, the rain was gone and we had sausage and pancakes for breakfast, tore down the campsite and headed back home.
It was such a wonderful and much needed vacation, and I had a great time!
