El Maquinista

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I received my Netflix movies last night and saw that I received The Machinist. I can’t remember why or when I put this movie on my queue, but I’m glad I did. I think it might have been one of those “If you like Memento, you might like the Machinist” moments.

Overall it was a really interesting plot. I love psychological thrillers.

In short, it’s about Trevor Reznik (Christian Bale), an industrial machinist, who has chronic insomnia and bad/strange things happen. I really enjoyed the ending, I didn’t expect it.

I was amazed at Christian Bale’s appearance. I didn’t think it was him at first since he was so freakin’ thin. The producers of the film claim that Christian Bale dropped from about 180 pounds in weight down to about 120 pounds in weight to make this film! [according to IMDB]. It was almost gross to see him like that, but that’s who the character was supposed to be, a walking skeleton.

It was also interesting to know that this movie was filmed in Spain, but the movie is set in L.A. They had to make all the scenes appear as if it were filmed in the States (signs, labels, streetlights, etc.)

I’m going to watch it again to catch all the little things I missed the first time around.

If you like dark, psychological, creepy, thriller, sometimes gross movies, rent The Machinist.

Bus

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I’m riding the bus all this week until my bicycle is fixed (this Saturday can’t come soon enough).

Yesterday, I had to make a detour and ride a different bus to the library and I was surprised at the fullness and tension on that bus! My normal bus is so laid back there are usually no problems, but on the bus yesterday, as I was making my way to the front of the bus to exit, this young woman yelled “MOVE!” It freaked me out since she was sitting down and not trying to get up, I have no idea what I was blocking her from. She probably just had a bad day, but the tone in her voice was frightening.

Anyway, I can’t wait to get my bike back.

Fun with Fisheye and more…

Monday, July 28th, 2008

My band’s show was awesome! Thanks to all who came out!

I bought a new camera on Friday: a lomographic fisheye

I spent most of Saturday hanging out with my brother and taking photos with said camera. Early in the morning, I went to the library to drop off and pick up some CDs and then relaxed with some Bing Crosby and coffee before heading out to the bicycle shop to get it fixed (I ran over some glass on Thursday and the back tire is shot). Anyway, Ray came with me and unfortunately I am sans bike until this coming Saturday. Riding to the bus to work all this week. I might bring some walking shoes and walk home, it’s not that far.

After dropping off the bike, we at at Jackamo’s Pizza. Amazing! It might even be better than Bazbeauxs…shhh…don’t tell them I said that ;} We finished devouring and headed to Fountain Square’s music shot Arthur’s, in which I bought a new bass! It was an impulsive buy, but I still have the full amount of my stimulus check and I couldn’t resist the color: PINK! :D (Photos soon) I picked up a new strap and bag with it as well.

Then we heading to downtown Fountain Square and wandered into Value Village and other random shops. Eventually, my camera’s film was complete so we headed to CVS for developing. While we waited, we went to Garfield park and soaked in the awesome day. We got the photos after a quick icecream stop and they turned out great!! I’ve posted them on my flickr (including the God Made Robots show) for your enjoyment : Click for Flickr

Exhausted

Monday, July 7th, 2008

I had to get my brother to the hospital yesterday. He was there from about 2pm till 11pm. His sciatic nerve was so bad he had trouble getting up. I hope he will get better. I love my brother.
Thank you so much Sluder Family for being there when we needed.

+ lack of sleep and very, very odd dreams are making me so off today.

Maybe I’ll feel a bit better after lunch.
